For established US business owners
AI developers may pay license fees for your firm's records.
Labs license de-identified copies of the email, files and operating records firms already keep. Deals published in 2026 ran from about $110,000 to $1.2 million, and some firms receive less or no offer. Pewter sizes your records, brings you a written offer from our licensing partner and coordinates the deal through payment.

A scenario, not a valuation. Many firms are offered less, and some receive no offer once their records are reviewed.

Signs of a suitable records fit
- 20+ peopleFull-time employees, now or at your peak.
Demand is strongest for records that capture skilled work in a stepwise way: accounting, logistics, construction, engineering, distribution, manufacturing, trades and professional services. Some regulated, privileged or third-party records can be excluded. Satisfying these criteria does not ensure an offer.
Questions before you start
Questions owners bring to their first call
Is this an actual opportunity, or just a pitch?
There is a real market. According to our licensing partner, firms with 60 to 100 people have received $350,000 to $650,000. A federal court filing also shows Google's $10 million winning bid for Spirit Airlines' records. Those transactions involved other firms, not us. You'll receive your offer in writing before making a commitment, and many firms are offered less than these amounts.
What will it cost me?
You pay nothing at any point. When a transaction closes, Pewter receives a fee from its licensing partner. No completed deal means no fee.
Who handles each part, and who is your client?
Pewter qualifies and finds the opportunity, assesses your records, presents the offer and coordinates the transaction. The offer comes from its licensing partner, who pays you and signs the license with you. You'll know the partner's identity before signing anything. Because the partner pays Pewter's fee, Pewter isn't your lawyer or agent. Pewter isn't a law firm or registered broker-dealer, and recommends that your own counsel review the agreement.
Will my data be taken away?
No. The license covers an agreed copy that is de-identified. You keep your original files and ownership of them stays the same.
Could staff or clients be identified?
Before delivery, contact details, names, payment details, credentials and account numbers are removed or replaced. Regulated, privileged or third-party records may be excluded. Since no method eliminates every risk, you review a sample and the process before signing. How records are handled.
Who has access to my records before I sign?
Only with your permission. Pewter might ask you for a small sample to assess quality before an offer; Pewter or its licensing partner may review it. You decide what goes in and may decline. The complete export happens only once you sign.
What will users do with the data?
Authorized AI developers will train and evaluate models with the data, as your agreement defines. The terms you approve specify exclusivity and permitted uses. Our free owner's guide, Before You Sell Your Data, covers terms and questions to resolve before you sign.
How much time will this require from my team?
Expect to spend a few hours on two or three calls and a short inventory of your systems. For an export, your IT person or provider handles the run while Pewter coordinates. No one has to generate new data or tidy anything up.
What if I don't know what data we have?
That's true for most owners. On the call, tell us which tools you've used over time, including email, shared drives and your operating or accounting system, and we'll identify what's available. Prefer to estimate the amount yourself first? Our free guide explains how to locate the figures in Slack, Google, Microsoft 365 and a dozen other tools.
Why move now?
Purchases are underway at labs. A single AI data company has committed $1 billion for the next twelve months. The valuable material is your retained history: once subscriptions lapse or a business winds down, deleted archives take that value with them.
